Grannies Respond /Abuelas Responden
Protecting and Caring for Asylum Seekers
This is a dark day in America. At the very least, the election results will mean much more trauma and fear for asylum-seekers. Grannies Respond stands firm in its mission to support and advocate for asylum-seekers in all the ways we can: legal assistance, Know Your Rights, clothing, housing, work permits, work, health, education, and general well-being and integration here in the U.S.
In each area where we have and continue to work, volunteers have given their all, and we are grateful.
We had the "luxury" of four years of some moderation, which will end in January. Please think about regrouping efforts where they may be needed most and reach out to see how we can help in your areas. You can reach me at catherine@granniesrespond.org.
Trump's plan to deport masses of asylum-seekers, many of whom have been here a long time, will tear apart and separate families once again, while we have not recovered from the wounds of such previous actions. His policies will also extend, as he has stated, to the nonprofits that have been assisting asylum-seekers. We shall see what that entails.
This election result flies in the face of what America has always stood for, and we stand in strong opposition to what Trump’s agenda will represent for Americans and would-be Americans.
Grannies Respond is part of a beautiful web of helpers across this country and we will continue to ensure safety and dignity for those we serve.
With great appreciation for your help,
Catherine Cole
